During the early 1900s many Chinese people immigrated to the United States of America from China.
- GOLD RUSH (April 1849-1882)
- Trading ships brought the news of the Gold Rush to China and the other Asian countries
- Chinese people who immigrated over encountered: terrible storms, inadequate food&water, and rapid diseases
- The Gold Rush brought the idea of a chance of a new life with more money to the Chinese.
- Economic Problems
- Over-investment and low consumption rate
- Excessive government interference in economic affairs
- Responded in need of inexpensive labor
- The Opium War left the Chinese financially unstable
- Because of financially unstability, people were poor and housing was problematic with large Chinese population
- Political Unrest
- 1912: Sun Yat-sen overthrew the Manchu Dynasty with his Nationalist Party
- Sun Yat-sen overthrown by Yuan Shi-Kai between 1912-1916
- Yuan Shi-Kai 1916
- China split in rule of different military leaders
- Sun Yat-sen organized the Nationalist Party and gradually assumed control and unites China
- Disagreement Nationalist Leaders
- 1921 Communist Party founded and began challenging Nationalist Party
- Foreign invasion
- Japanese invasion of China in September 18, 1931
- Japanese exploded Manchurian railroads to occupy the city of Mukdan
- Took the Japanese 3 months to cover the entire Manchurian area
- State of undeclared war
- Japan occupied the nation for the next two years
- 50,000 Chinese dead by May 1933
- Japanese attack again in 1937 and begins and 8 year war
